What are the most common questions paddlers ask?

Many people wonder whether a kayaking course is right for them. The simple answer is: if you're comfortable in the water, kayaking is suitable for almost everyone. Here you'll find answers to the questions we're asked most often before booking an Arkadventures course.


Do I need previous kayaking experience?

Do I need to be fit?

A normal level of fitness is enough. Whitewater kayaking is more about technique than strength.

What is the minimum age?

We've welcomed paddlers from 8 to 88 years old. The minimum age is generally 8 years, as younger children are usually too small for our kayaks.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Every paddler receives a complete set of equipment, including a dry jacket and wetsuit. Whether it's raining or sunny, you'll stay well protected. Rain doesn't affect kayaking—in fact, it's often a wonderful experience to be on the water in the rain. You'll stay dry under our jackets. How many participants are in each course?

Our 1- to 4-day kayaking courses have a maximum of 6 participants on the water. Most of the time, our groups are even smaller, with only 1 to 4 paddlers, allowing for plenty of individual coaching. Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes. Basic swimming ability is required for all of our courses.
