Beginner Whitewater kayak course
`Paddling Skills, Trust in yourself, And real fun down the river!`
On this course, you learn how to us all the equipment. The wet exit and all the paddling strokes and techniques that allow you to paddle down the river and be able to control your kayak and paddle where you want to go.
On the third day you can use all your newly learned skills to stop in an eddie on the river, use river features to ferryglide to the other side and of course experience the pleasure of kayaking that comes with paddling!

Day Plan
Rhine Gorge
- Day 1.
- Get to Know and showing the plan for the next few days with Coffee and Tea
- Handing out all the equipment, and learning how it works.
- Teaching on the river at a practicing area.
- Day 2
- Paddling and Teaching in the Rhine Gorge
- Group river trip through the Rhine Gorge
- Shuttle back to the starting point.
- Day 3
- Self rescue practice as a group.
- Practice getting into eddies and out.
- Learn how to read the river, which determines how we paddle.
- From what we have learned in the morning, we put it into practice and go on a river trip downstream of 12 km through the stunning Rhine Gorge.
Aare und Simme (Bern)
- Day 1.
- Get to Know and showing the plan for the next few days with Coffee and Tea
- Handing out all the equipment, and learning how it works.

- Day 2
- Paddling and teaching on the Aare– Worblaufen (resturaunt Rio)
- Day 3
- On the Simme– we practise the art of rescuing yourself.
- Practice getting into eddies and out.
- Learn how to read the river, which determines how we paddle.
- From what we have learned in the morning we put into practice and go on a river trip downstream of 10 km on the Simme In the Beautiful Valley of the Simme in Bern Simmental!
Beginner Whitewater kayak course
The perfect difficulty level for learning whitewater kayaking in a safe and controlled environment: Arkadventures' beginner courses and kayak tours take place on Whitewater Grade II. This way, you’ll learn all the necessary whitewater skills to read and enjoy the river, while having fun in the rapids.
What you learn
- You will learn how to use all the equipment
- You learn reading of the river, potential risks and hazards, how to use the river to your advantage, to paddle your kayak more easily.
- Whitewater swimming, rescue with a throwline, and rescue of yourself and equipment.
- Learn to use river features to your advantage , this makes it easier to manover your kayak on the water.
- Paddling from one side of the river too the other (ferryglide), river signals to be able comunicate on the river, Stability in your kayak, using the edge of the kayak and turning the kayak where you want to go.
- Paddling the kayak forwards efficiently, how to sit properly and use the forward stroke the most effective way that you go down the river with ease.
- The focus is to be able to paddle down the river as a team.
- The newly learned skills to be put into practice, getting in to eddies and out whilst going down the river.

What should I bring?
- Medical Supplies if needed (Asthma spray-Allergy medication)
- Swimming stuff
- Band for your glasses.
- Towel
- Depending on temperature, Thermal clothes, without cotton.
- Closed Sport Shoes that can get wet.
- Train Card/ Train Ticket (you can buy this at the meeting point) Only for the Rhein gorge
- Something too eat for lunch and drink -for when on the river.
